Keep Calm and Welcome Winter

We all talk about the lazy days of summer, but what about the lazy days of winter? The first storms of the season remind us to slow down, be easy, don’t rush.

I hear the scrape of the plow for my alarm clock 15 minutes before my usual alarm and I know I need to get up so I’m not in a hurry. Yet as I approach the first roundabout a bit too fast, my tires slide as I tap the brake and at that point I know I’m not going to stop, so I release the brake, steer into the turn and bring the car back around. Instant reminder SLOW DOWN! My commute continues now doubled in time, and I find peace in the snowy landscape that is everywhere I look. As soon as I give myself that luxury of time, almost instantly, everything that is happening is suddenly just as it should be. This acceptance allows life to fall into place like the billions of individually unique droplets of water that transform the surrounding scenery into our winter wonderland.

“We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand… and melting like a snowflake. Let us use it before it is too late.” — Marie Beynon Lyons Ray
