Peak fall colors are here in the high country! As I make my commute to and from work I find myself "ooooing and ahhhhhing" as though I am viewing a spectacular fireworks show. What is Mud Season?

As we trudge through what the rest of the country calls "spring", the Vail Valley and surrounding mountain towns endure "Mud Season." Beyond the mixture of rain and snow that defines the shoulder season, it is a time treasured by locals. The villages are void of skis, turning lifts and filled with great restaurant and retail deals. I encourage any avid mountain lover to come visit during this so-called down time. Each year the mud season gains more and more popularity for tourists seeking solitude and quiet reflection. Vail Veterans

Most people that have visited Vail know that our little slice of heaven was greatly influenced and by the impact of the 10th Mountain Division and it's soldiers. Many of the soldiers who fought in World War II had a common love for the outdoors, which translated to skiing.  And for some that passion led to the development of America's ski industry, especially here in Vail. To find out more about the 10th Mountain Division check out the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame Vail recognizes  an opportunity to [...]

Hope on a Slope and How to Cope

The days are growing longer, and crystalline snow capped peaks give way to mountains of mud.  While some of us handle this transition with grace and hope for new adventures, others simply crumble like corn snow. We focus on the renewed feelings of spring in an effort to embrace the grace of mother nature, yet our thirst for fresh powder turns, and the sense of freedom found on the slopes cannot be quenched. Closing Day here in Vail brings about a slippery slope of  melancholy. Glorious pow stashes that free our [...]
